Description
The Aging & Brain Health Alliance at Rutgers University-Newark seeks to hire (for a start date in January or summer/fall, 2024) two postdoctoral fellows. The first is for a candidate with strong prior training and experience in fMRI, EEG, or polysomnography/sleep analyses (PSG), with an interest in applying those techniques to the study of aging, brain health, and Alzheimer’s disease prevention. The second is for a candidate with strong prior training and productivity in machine learning/AI with an interest in applying those skills to large datasets from biomedical research on aging and brain function (no prior neuroscience training is required).
Fellows who work in our lab will participate in our NIH-funded study of Pathways to Healthy Aging in African Americans, which seeks to test specific hypotheses about the interplay between genetic variations and potentially modifiable health behaviors to influence cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease risk in older African Americans, while exploring the role of sex differences and socio-environmental factors. Our interdisciplinary team of collaborators includes faculty and trainees from neuroscience, psychology, public health, psychiatry, neurology, kinesiology, epidemiology, and immunology. Rutgers has an extensive program of community engagement in the greater Newark area through which it recruits older African Americans into both longitudinal cohort studies and non-pharmacological interventional clinical trials. There will be opportunities for interdisciplinary and international cross-training with collaborators at Rutgers and other institutions around the world. Salary will be commensurate with experience and comparable to other postdoctoral positions at Rutgers University in neuroscience and related fields.
Requirements
Applicants for both positions should summarize, in a cover letter, how they meet the following criteria:
1. Either (A) strong skills, training, and prior hands-on experience in fMRI, EEG, and polysomnography/sleep analyses or (B) strong prior training and experience in machine learning/AI.
2. A Ph.D. in neuroscience, cognitive science, neurobiology, computer science, or a related field.
3. Rigorous training and experience in biostatistics and data analysis.
4. Prior experience writing first-authored English-language academic papers and/or research grants.
