Tthe ASU Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center (NDRC) invites applications for an Edson Foundation Postdoctoral Research Scholar. The NDRC is a center in the Biodesign Institute and the fellowship would be in the laboratory of Dr. Henry Tseng. Under the direction of founding director Dr. Jeffrey Kordower, the goal of the Edson Foundation and NDRC is to fund research and scholars who will aid in new discoveries and solutions to improve the quality of life for people affected by neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Essential Duties:

1) Culture of cell lines, primary mouse neurons, and hiPSCs.
2) Microscopy, confocal imaging, and cellular/molecular biology techniques.
3) Rodent handling, drug delivery and tissue collection.
4) Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
5) Data analysis, manuscript preparation, and oral presentations.
6) Writing grant proposals to submit to the National Institute of Health and other organizations (e.g. The Alzheimer's Association).
7) Actively participating in journal clubs, lab meetings, and international conferences.

The selected candidate will work in the Tseng laboratory, which is focused on identifying early molecular events that are triggered by normal aging and age-related risk factors that lead to AD or PD. This lab also aims to develop novel therapeutic strategies to reverse or slow down disease progression. The Tseng lab uses a variety of model systems, including in vitro cell models of disease, wild-type or transgenic rodent models, and both nonhuman primate and human tissue from patients. Please email Dr. Tseng if you have any questions.

Requirements

1) A completed Ph.D. in neurobiology, molecular and cellular biology, or related field within the last five years.

2) Must have a strong background in wet lab techniques such as immunohistochemistry, immunoblots, tissue homogenization, and qPCR.
